Q: When should I drink Asend Hydration mixes?

We recommend using our hydration mix anytime you sweat to replenish your body’s energy stores and electrolytes. Your body generally has enough energy stores for an hour of activity, but if you are sweating buckets or going longer than an hour Asend will help you be your best. Whether you are hiking, skiing, camping, or performing hard efforts on the bike or running, Asend was designed to give your body a natural boost.

Q: When should I drink Asend Recovery mix?

Within 30 minutes post adventure, when your body is craving carbohydrates to replenish and protein to rebuild. We also added a delicious blend of anti-inflammatory spices to enhance your recovery even more. Asend Recovery uses a 3:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein which will give you plenty of protein to rebuild and enough carb wiggle room for that post adventure snack or cold frosty beverage. Don’t forget to recover properly with your feet up and some couch time, so you can charge all over again the next day.

Q: How much is in one serving of Asend Hydration?

Each 1 scoop serving or packet is specifically designed for a 20-22 ounce bottle. Standard shorty water bottles are 22 ounces. There is a common misconception that water bottles are 16 ounces since serving sizes are so often listed as 8 oz. Our servings are a real world one scoop per bottle, not 2 ½ 8oz scoops per bottle. This is why the large Asend Hydration bags have 16 servings instead of 40.

Q: What are the ingredients in each bottle of Asend Hydration?

Carbohydrates: Simple carbohydrates in the form of dextrose and cane sugar to give the ideal carbohydrate absorption ratio of 4:1 glucose to fructose. Electrolytes: The citrate version of electrolytes which is more easily absorbed aids in electrolyte replacement. 400 mg of sodium and other important electrolytes (potassium, calcium, magnesium, and chloride) replaced average sweat loss. Fruit: Flavored naturally with freeze dried fruits and boosted with freeze dried superfruits.

Q: What’s NOT in our Asend Hydration?

We believe simple is better which is why we use simple carbohydrates instead of complex carbohydrates which can lead to bloating.  And we use real ground up fruit instead of artificial or 'natural flavoring' which is still developed in a lab.  We also stay away from unnecessary 'magic' ingredients. In a study of 25 hydration mixes we conducted, 90 unique ingredients were used in various drink mixes. We use 9 essential ingredients to replace calories burned and sweat lost. Our mix sounds simple, it is far from simple, but it provides simple performance.

Q: Why doesn’t Asend use sea salt?

We use sodium citrate — not sea salt or sodium chloride — our testers found it to be easier on the stomach and your body absorbs it better. Additionally, sodium citrate pre-exercise has been shown to improve performance.

Q: Why does the powder clump?

The good news is that if it clumps, it’s still good. Just give it a squeeze, or a good hug and it will break up again, ready for use. The drying process for the real fruit leaves about 1% to 3% of the moisture behind which can cause the product to firm up over time. You may even notice that Cranberry Tart Cherry firms up more than Lemon Blackcurrant and Strawberry Acai. This is because the smooth skins of the cranberries and cherries make drying more difficult than lemons and strawberries.  More humid environments cause clumping to occur faster that arid environments. Asend avoids use of anti-caking agents like silica to prevent clumping.  Even though regulations allow the additives to be up to 2% of the product, we feel dealing with a little clumping is better than ingesting unnecessary additives.

Q: Once I mix Asend with water, how long does it last?

Asend can keep stored in a refrigerator for a few days. Use your judgement, if it looks or smells suspect, mix up a new bottle instead. Asend does not have any preservatives, so treat it like fresh squeezed apple cider from the orchard rather than your typical preservative filled apple juice from the supermarket.

The amount of salt in our drink is based on the average sodium content in sweat and recommendations for repletion.

Q: Why only 100 calories in Asend Hydration?

Asend is developed for a variety of athletic adventures. 100 calories per bottle per hour is a good starting point for most sweaty adventures. Since we use real fruit that is not overly sweet, you won’t get taste bud fatigue on all day adventures, and you can add more mix per bottle for higher intensity activities that require more calories and electrolytes without being overwhelmed by sweetness. We also do not feel drinking all your calories is right for everyone. Your stomach is like a traffic cop metering nutrients to your lower intestine where absorption happens. So bring that favorite cookie or energy bar, stop at on your your favorite coffee shop or local food truck.
